In 1985 koopt een muzikantengezin, bestaande uit een cellist, een violiste en hun dreumes, een oude huishoudschool waar vroeger 44 meisjes woonden. Vanbinnen lijkt het alsof de school van het ene op het andere moment is achtergelaten; er staan nog zes kookstellen naast elkaar en er hangen nog zes douches op een rij. De violiste en cellist hebben ieder al een kind uit een vorige relatie; ‘de middelste zus’ en ‘de oudste broer’ die allebei meeverhuizen naar De Vondel. Een verzameling grappige en soms bizarre verhalen die zich in en rondom het huis afspelen, zoals dat over de violiste die een concert moet spelen, maar onderweg ernaartoe de weeën op voelt komen. Of het verhaal over de vrolijke schrijver die door zijn vrouw wordt afgezet om hem in de gaten te houden, en de belevenissen van de cellist op tournee.
